Port Location and Influence Area:
Conchan Marine installations, belongs to "Cementos Lima" (shippers). The facilities mainly consist of a pier where vessels of up to 38,000 tons dead weight may berth. The pier is located at Playa of Conchan, at 24.5 km South Pan-american Highway, district of Lurin, Province and department of Lima.
Port Description:
Geographically, the pier of Conchan is located South East of Pta. Chira, between the port of Callao to NW and the mooring buoy belonging to the Conchan Refinery to the East.
It is an offshore terminal, located in an area, with 10 miles of open sea, and no geographical accidents. Winds with direction SW and swell with slight intensity affect the port during all year, becoming stronger during the months of December and January.
Port Restrictions:
DWT 38,000 mts
LOA max. 185 mts
LOA min. 135 mts
Beam 30 mts
Breadth 32 mts
Depth 35 mts
Draft (SWD) 11 mts
Anchorage:
According to the local regulations all arriving vessels have to drop anchor first at Callao anchorage where port authorities, pilot and holds inspectors board to comply with formalities. As soon free pratique is granted, vessel is then allowed to proceed to Conchan Terminal. Sailing time from Callao to Conchan is about 3-4 hours.
Pier Infrastructure:
This pier is an offshore terminal, located at an open beach, obstacle-free, and heading almost in a North-South direction. Access to the pier consists of a 528 meters long and 6.50 meters wide trestle type carriageway.
The port is a "finger pier" opened to the sea but swell/surge is not a big problem as two mooring buoys have been added to the sea side to keep vessels loading alongside without further problems.
The pier head is 181 mts long and 10.30 meters. The maximum sea depth at the pier head is 20 mts at low tide and 13 mts at the other end. The pier only allows one vessel to moor on the west side.
Pilotage:
Pilotage is mandatory for berthing / unberthing operations. The pilot must board the ship at the Callao port, otherwise upon master request, vessel can proceed without pilot straight to Conchan anchorage where must drop anchor waiting for pilot. No vessel is allowed to moor at the pier without assistance of authorized pilot.
During periods of heavy but controllable swell, at the request and expense of the vessel, the pilot shall remain on board and / or in the pier area until the loading/unloading operations have completed.
Vessels may only be moored between 06:00 hours to 17:30 hours, while undocking operations may be carried out at any time.
Tugs:
The Harbour master has established that the use of minimum 1,000 HP tugboat is compulsory for ships exceeding 5,000 GRT during mooring and unmooring operations.
In addition, the pier shall maintain a launch in standby position to transport personnel or for emergency undocking.
Working Hours:
The port operates 24 hrs / day shinc.
Loading / unloading system / warehouse / storage facilities
The pier facilities have two cement storage silos with a total capacity of 30,000 mt. These silos are filled before the ship arrives. The cement stored in the silos is discharged onto 1 km conveyor belt, which feeds a ship loader through a tripper, and the loader has a system of belts to carry the cement (or other bulk solids) up to a loading boom which has a chute and discharge pipe at its tip, then the material is taken through this chute and discharged into the ship's hold. Shiploader runs on rails the length of the pier, allowing it to change between holds according to the loading sequence.
For discharging bulk materials such as coal, grain, cereals, etc. The pier is fitted with a crane named "kangaroo" which allows hydraulic grab to extract the bulk cargo from ship's holds and discharge cargo into a hopper attached to the crane itself. In addition discharge operations can be done simultaneously with ship's cranes/grabs in order to improve discharge rate. Cargo is then transported through 1 km conveyor belt into port storage yard.

Berthing Facilities:
During berthing maneuver, vessels will moor portside alongside (bow to sea), according to the port regulations minimum ten 3" to 4" diameter nylon mooring lines in good condition are required in order to distribute them to the "quick hooks", pier bitts and the two mooring buoys. The usage of cables as mooring lines is forbidden unless connected to constant tension winches or working with nylon rope tails of no less than 20 m long.
The ship shall maintain a sufficient number of crewmembers on guard duty on deck, to make sure the mooring lines are kept taut during the course of loading operations, according to the sea conditions. The pier has a mooring team available 24 hours a day to help the ship with the maintenance of the mooring lines.
The ship shall provide the necessary facilities for the stevedores agents to carry out the loading plan. While the ship is moored at pier, a deck officer shall remain on board alongwith the ship's agent representative, to coordinate loading/unloading operation between the ship's crew and the pier staff.
