Description: |
|
The
port is a "finger pier" type, naturally sheltered with
no swell and/or surge problems, as the cliffs surrounding the
bay well protect the port area. The minimum water depth in the
maneuvering area is 32 feet and the seabed consists of mud and
clay which is dredged every 3 years. When draft exceeds 32' swd,
then maneuvers are restricted to high tides only.
|
 |
|
Currents
in the bay are very weak and winds are either from the South or
Southeast with an average speed of 9 to 12 knots, which help only
to refresh the semi-tropical atmosphere, specially between May
and July. The port has no records of closure on account of swell
and or surge. Rain are experienced when "El Niño"
affects the Peruvian coast only.
