Latitude: 13º 48' 00" S
Longitude: 76º 17' 00" W
Port Location and Influence Area:
"Terminal Portuario General San Martin" is better known as Pisco, despite the fact that the old "lighterage" port of Pisco and the town are located four miles across the bay and some 45 Kms. away by road. The port itself is located on the NE end of the Paracas Peninsula, in a place called "Punta Pejerrey", some 300 Km. South (by road) and 132 nautical miles from Callao, the main Peruvian port.
The port (TPGSM) serves Pisco, Chincha and Ica cities, as well as the inland provinces of Hauncavelica and Ayacucho, consumers of most fertilizers imported through the TPGSM.
Port Description:
This is a direct berthing "pier port" with a clean and deep access. The berth is clean and well fendered, with a wide working apron of concrete reinforced platform type, as was initially built as an alternative container terminal to Callao.
The port is well and naturally sheltered for which swell and surge are not a problem and there is no records of closing due to bad weather. Nights are generally windy but the installations and berths are well protected from the Southern winds, called "Paracas" when they strong enough to carry some sand. This slight sandstorms are mostly experienced at evenings between August and November.
The turning basin has an average depth of 36'00" and the official restriction alongside is 33"00" SWD (d= 1.026) (see official restrictions). However, vessels can be safely handled with up to 34' 06" at high tide.

Port Infrastructure:
It is a marginal wharf 700 meters long divided in four berths (1-A / 1-B / 1-C / 1-D), ships can be moored port or starboard side depending on cargo or ship particulars.

Pier 1-A 185 meters long. Used for grain, minerals, sulfuric acid and iron ore.
Grain: always discharged using ship's gear and shore clamshells as no suction towers nor shore cranes available in the vicinity.
Sulfuric acid: is delivered to the ship by means of shore manifold / pipelines connected to three storage tanks with a total storage capacity of about 12,000 tonnes.

Pier 1-B 175 meter used for salt, grains, iron scrap, iron ores and fertilizers.
Rock Salt: is trucked from the Otuma mine, about 25 kilometers away from the TPGSM. Salt is stock piled in the open yards and loaded by means of one mobile conveyor belt fed with payloaders from the piles. Conveyor belt is changed between holds according to loading sequence.

Pier 1-C 175 meters long. Fishmeal in bulk and bags, steels and fertilizers are handled in this berth. There is only one conveyor belt for loading bulk fishmeal which belong to the shippers. Cargo is always stored at port warehouse ready for shipment. Once vessels are moored, the fishmeal is trucked from the warehouse and dropped into the cargo conveyor positioned alongside the ship.
Pier 1-D 165 meters used for fertilizers, bagged fishmeal and general cargo.
Pilotage:
Pilotage is compulsory and available at any time. Two hours minimum notice is required as pilots come from the town. Pilots board vessels about one mile off the berth once clearance formalities are completed at roads.
Tugs:
2 tugs compulsory for vessels exceeding 120 mtrs LOA.

  Tug "Ballestas" 1,400 hp
  Tug "Nazca" 1,500 hp
