Port Influence Area:
The Talara Port and refinery is a state company operated by Petro Perú "Petroleos del Perú". The city is the center of the Peruvian oil industry located 1,180 kms north of Lima City. Refinery has a processing capacity of abt 60,000 barrels per day, it is the state fist Peruvian Refinery. The Refinery processes different products such as Gasoline of various grades, Liquefied Gas LPG, Kerosene, Special Napthas, Diesel 2, Residual 6, Jet fuel (turbo A-1), etc.
The Port of Talara, serves oil industry in the area attending departments of Tumbes and Piura, in which case the product is transported via trucks through Pan-American highway. However, most of its production is sold to the rest of the country, using its own loading pier for ocean transportation to the Terminals of Eten, Salaverry, Chimbote, Supe, Callao, Pisco, Mollendo and Ilo, covering most of oil Peruvian terminals.

131 km north of the city of Piura.
526 nautical miles north of Callao.
40 nautical miles north of Paita.
Port Description:
Sheltered harbour, located about half mile between Punta Macara and punta Rocallosa. The entrance channel is located at SE-NW direction with a minimum width of 180 meters and 10/11 meters water depth. Manouvering area is relative small, therefore when approaching / sailing to/ from berth, all vessels must be assisted by two tug boats.
The anchorage place is about 0.8 mile NW direction off Talara lighthouse, however arriving vessels should request designated anchorage place to Maritime harbour authorities. Water deep at Talara bay between 10/18 meters, sea bottom is a muddy sand which is good for anchoring. However, the port is always affected by sea current of about 3 knots and SW winds specially during afternoon time. Therefore, vessels awaiting at anchorage should exercise caution so as not drifting eastward direction where there is danger of grounding.
Submarine Pipeline:
Submarine line is situated abt 1.5 miles SW direction off Talara lighthouse. Submarine line is used for loading or unloading crude. 80 percent of vessels discharge crude and 40 percent total movement is to load residual-6 and residual-500. For security reasons all vessels shall proceeded to this terminal with daylight only and assisted with both pilot and two tugs boats. Vessels always more heading southbound, for this purpose there are 6 supporting mooring buys distributed north to south direction. Ships can safely more with both anchors down, however pilot will take final decision on whether or not use one or two anchors.
Port Infrastructure:   
     
 

Berth 1 is a shaped jetty well fended which has a main platform equipped with 6 articulated loading arms for loading the oil products. In addition, 4 dolphins located at north and south side of the main platform severs to secure ship`s mooring ropes. Tankers up to 210 meters and max draft of 11 mts. can be accommodated alongside. For safely reasons only polypropylene lines to be used.

 
 
 
Berth 1 is eventually used to attend vessels carrying import products such as gasoline of high octane. However, most of this product being discharged in Conchan oil Terminal.
 
     
Pilotage:
Compulsory and provided by Petro Peru. Service is requested through Petroperu's attending agents.
Pilots board vessels about one mile off from Talara lighthouse. Pilots are available 24 hrs. /day as berthing / unberthing manouver at Pier 1 can be performed even at night or day time.
Tugs:
2 tugs Compulsory berthing / unberthing manouvers.
  Tug "Chavín": 2,360 hp
  Tug "Vikus": 1,500 hp
Working Hours:
The port operates 24 hrs / day shinc, i.e. from 07:00 - 14:00 / 14:00 - 21:00 / 22:00 - 07:00 hrs.
Usual Loading / Discharging Rates:
Pier 1: Gasoline and diesel 2: loading rate about 7,000/ 8,000 barrels per hour.
Submarine Line: Products can be loaded or discharged at a rate of about 6,000 barrels per hour.
